Q. What is Canon Creative for a Cause?
A. Canon Creative for a Cause is a campaign that encourages Australians and New Zealanders to get creative to win AUD$60,000 and NZD$25,000, respectively, to support a cause of their choice.
Canon believes that a single image can change the world.
Q. How does the campaign work?
A. Canon is urging people to get Creative for a Cause by taking a photograph that depicts a cause that they are passionate about and uploading it, along with a 25 word description of what their photo represents and who their selected charity or charitable organisation is, to
www.canon.com.au/creativeforacause in Australia or www.canon.co.nz/creativeforacause in New Zealand.
The top-three photos from each cause category as selected by popular vote and one editor's pick per category will then be reviewed by a judging panel who will select the top-five finalists. From this, the judges will select the winning image.
Australians have the opportunity to win their nominated charitable organisation AUD$60,000.
New Zealanders have the opportunity to win their nominated charitable organisation NZD$25,000.
Q. Has Canon ever done this before?
A. No, this is the first time Canon has run the Creative for a Cause campaign. The campaign supports Canon's corporate philosophy of kyosei which means "Living and working together for the common good".
Q. When does the campaign open to entries?
A. The campaign will open to entries on Thursday 28 May, 2009
Q. When does the campaign close to entries?
A. The campaign will close to entries on Friday 10 July, 2009
Q. How much money is being awarded?
A. At the conclusion of the campaign, Canon will contribute AUD$60,000 towards the Australian winning entrant's selected charitable organisation and NZD$25,000 will be rewarded to the New Zealand winning entrants' selected charitable organisation.

Submitting an entry
Q. What kind of photos is Canon looking for?
A. Canon is looking for creative and inspirational images that depict the causes Australians are most passionate about. These could include photos of environmental or humanitarian images such as the Great Barrier Reef, a queue of people lining up outside a free soup kitchen, a child in a hospital bed or a mother. Canon is encouraging people to be as creative as possible and think laterally with their photography.
Q. How will Canon monitor the suitability of the images?
A. All uploaded images are subject to approval by Canon before they go live on the Creative for a Cause website. There is also a reporting button next to each photo for people to report any images that they find unsuitable.
Q. Who can enter the competition?
A. This competition is open to everyone in Australia and New Zealand.
Q. How do I submit my image?
A. To submit an image, log on to www.canon.com.au/creativeforacause in Australia or www.canon.co.nz/creativeforacause in New Zealand. You will need to enter a title for your image and you will need to nominate a recipient organisation that supports your cause. You will also have to select the category that your cause belongs to.
Q. What do I need to submit with my image?
A. You will need to write a 25 word description of your image in the space provided on the website page.
Q. How many entries can I submit?
A. There is no limit to the number of entries submitted per person.
Q. What are the cause categories?
A. The cause categories are:
- Arts and Culture
- Children
- Medical and Health
- Humanitarian
- Welfare
- Education
- Environment
Q. What if my chosen cause does not fit into one of these categories?
A. If your cause does not fit into any of the specific categories you should select the "other" option in the drop down menu when uploading your image.
Q. What are the size specifications on uploaded images?
A. Images should be a minimum of 500 x 500 pixels and as a guide no smaller than 500kb with a maximum file size of 5MB.

Voting
Q. How do I vote for my favourite image?
A. To vote for an image, you first need to register your details on the Canon Creative for a Cause site. Once registered, you can scroll through the image gallery or view images by cause category. There will be a vote button below each image.
Q. Is there a limit to the amount of times I can vote for one photo?
A. Yes, you can only vote for an image once.
Q. How many images can I vote for?
A. You can vote for as many different images as you wish, but you cannot vote for the same image more than once.
Q. Can I vote for my own image?
A. Yes, you can vote for your own image once.

Judging
Q. How does the judging work?
A. A judging panel will review the top 24 images between Monday 20 July, 2009 and Friday 31 July, 2009. Judges will then narrow the finalists down to five images and select an overall winner from the top five.
Q. How are the top 24 decided?
A. The two most popular photos per cause category as voted by the public and one editor's pick per cause category will make up the 24 finalists - judges will not be informed of the editor's choice or most popular in each category or the selected recipient.
Q. When will the top 24 finalists be announced?
A. The top 24 finalists will be announced on the website on Thursday 16 July, 2009.
Q. When will the winner be announced?
A. The winner will be announced on Thursday 6 August, 2009.

Finalists Rewards
Q. Will the top five finalists receive any prize?
A. Yes, in addition to the cash donation made to the winning Australian and New Zealand entrant's nominated recipient, Canon will reward the winning Australian and New Zealand entrant with Canon gear worth AUD$1,988 / NZD$2644.95, consisting of 1 x EOS 500D (Single IS Lens Kit), 1 x PIXMA MX630, 1 x Photo Paper Pro Platinum (4"x6") photo sheets. Four finalists from Australia and New Zealand will receive a Canon prize package valued at AUD$698 / NZD$899.90 consisting of an IXUS 110 IS and SELPHY ES30.
